Inpatient hospitalization programs in Appalachia are a form of drug rehab facility which delivers treatment in a hospital setting where the rehab process can be supervised by medical staff as well as treatment professionals. As is often the case with alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal, it is sometimes necessary for an individual to be in an inpatient hospitalization program during the withdrawal process because the withdrawal symptoms can be life threatening. Inpatient hospitalization programs are also an option for those in Appalachia who wish to undergo medication assisted withdrawal, which is often used in the case of prescription pain reliever and illicit opiate addiction. Most people in Appalachia who choose this treatment route however and don't follow up with additional intensive treatment have extremely high rates of relapse. In either case, addicted individuals should follow up detox with an in depth rehabilitation program either in inpatient hospitalization or in some other drug treatment facility.
