Dual Diagnosis Clients with Mental and Substance Abuse Problems - HI.

Many addicted individuals in HI. who find their way to drug rehab are dual diagnosis clients with co-occurring mental and substance abuse problems. In fact, as many as 1/3 of those who struggle with mental health issues in Hawaii also take part in substance abuse at some time in their lives. These dual diagnosis clients frequently turn to drugs or alcohol to self medicate in an attempt to relieve the symptoms of an underlying psychological issue. Some addicts aren't even diagnosed with a disorder, and only when they make it to a drug treatment facility is this sort of issue brought to light. This in itself can sometimes help resolve addiction issues and put the individual in a position to receive treatment for both conditions so that they have a strong chance of remaining clean and sober and psychologically healthy in the future.
